Audience Participation Dance

History & Background

Wrapping up a hard week of farming, the residents of the German village change into their finer clothes and head to the local inn for a good meal and gemütlichkeit (“good cheer”). A time of relaxation and togetherness where all of us dance!

This dance is done to a gay German folk song, “Catherine’s Wedding.” The words of the song relate the happy events which took place at the Inn named “To the Crown.” The dance comes from Sonderburg on the Island Alsen.
