Translation : “Greater Going Behind”

History & Background

This dance highlights the women dancers, and is one of the few dances we perform that has a lot of women spinning. The women wear a traditional country styled dress called a “dirndl” with an apron. Look for the dress to form a bell shape, which is the sign of excellent spinning!

The dance gets its name from the second part of the Chorus. “Achterrüm” means “hinter herum” or “going behind.” In a sense, dancers here go around one another. This is a native dance of the heather country in the North German province of Hannover.
