“The Rose Gate”
History & Background
The Rosentor is a more traditional formal waltz. The name “Rosentor” translates literally into “The Rose Gate.”
From the Folk Dance Federation of California :
This dance will probably be known in the future under its German name of “Rosentor.” Door or gate of roses seems phonetically and also in every other way inadequate. It is perhaps of interest that the Germans called the dance first “Begruessungstanz” – translated that would be “Dance of Salutation.”
